Between the Tides: A Yoga and Tide Pooling Experience

$45.00

Aubrey Jane, marine biologist, and Chris Byrne, trauma-informed yoga teacher, are excited to invite you to this community gathering where the practice of yoga and marine science come together in exploring you connection to Maine’s living shoreline.

Chris will guide you through an accessible yoga practice. Gentle movement, focused breathing, and guided meditation will invite you to settle into the present moment and prepare you for the observations and reflections that you’ll discover in the tide pools.

Following the yoga practice, Aubrey will guide you as you explore the rich diversity of the tide pools, sharing the science and stories of the remarkable creatures that live in the intertidal zone, the ever-changing space between land and ocean.

Weaving together perspectives from yogic philosophy and marine ecology, you’ll explore how the immensity and wholeness of who you are is shaped by the same elements of resilience, adaptability, and interconnected relationships that allow these tidal ecosystems to thrive in an ever-changing environment.

We cannot wait to move, learn, and explore the living shoreline of Maine with you!

Event FAQs

What Will the Yoga Practice Be?: The practice begins with a mindfulness meditation and will transition to gentle, slow movements both on the ground and standing. Practice will close with a short rest and reflection before transitioning to the tide pools!

What Should I Bring for Yoga?: You should bring a yoga mat and any specific props that you like to use. We will have yoga blocks and a limited number of mats available if needed. Note that you will be practicing on the beach so you should be prepared to get sand on your mat or props.

What can I expect Tide Pooling?: After the yoga practice, Aubrey will guide you to the tide pooling area and highlight critters and plant life that are present. Every tide pool is unique and offers a mystery each time you look at it! Exactly what you will see is determined by what Nature offers up that day.

What Should I Bring for Tide Pooling?: You should wear closed-toed shoes that are either water shoes or waterproof to aide in moving safely across uneven, wet terrain near the water and wave activity. Temperatures on the beach can change rapidly. Bring layers so you’ll be comfortable and that you don’t mind getting wet or sandy!

Weather Policy: We are manifesting good weather for our time together (and invite you to do the same!) However, please note this event will be held rain or shine. Refunds will only be issued if we need to cancel the event due to safety concerns or severe weather.

Accessibility Notes: Accessibility is always on our mind. Please be aware this natural environment may pose limitations for individuals with mobility challenges. The beach and the rocks around the tide pools can be uneven, wet, slippery, awkward to move on, and often require the ability to move independently. If you have questions about the environment, please email us before reserving your spot.
