Meet our marine biologists

Lead guide

Aubrey has a background in marine biology and science policy and has studied Maine’s marine environment for almost a decade. She has published several scientific papers, engaged in outreach and teaching from pre-K to college levels, spent months at sea, and logged hundreds of hours in the intertidal zone. When she’s not slipping and sliding on seaweed, she can be found pursuing an open water dive certification or surfing (poorly).

Turning Tides is the culmination of all of her experiences in the Gulf of Maine. Through guided tide pooling, she hopes to share all of the fascinating things she’s learned about Maine’s coast with locals and tourists alike, showing folks that there is so much more to a puddle of saltwater than meets the eye.

Connor Jones

Tide pool guide

Connor has a background in ecology and environmental education. He has experience teaching at the college level and in early-childhood settings. Originally from NY, he moved to Maine to pursue a master's degree in marine science. During his two-year thesis project, he investigated how the rapidly warming waters of the Gulf of Maine are impacting a local population of blue mussels.

Being able to explore tide pools so close to home is one of Connor's favorite parts of living in Maine. Some of his best days involve waking up with the sun during a spring tide to poke around the algae and peek under the rocks within these fascinating ecosystems. If he's not wading through shallow water, he's probably birding, tending to his native plants or helping amphibians cross the road. No matter what outdoor activity he's engaged in, he loves being able to share the experience with others, whether it's a casual outing with friends or a formal class.

Connor joins tide pool excursions for large groups and community tide pooling events.
