A marine scientist on a mission

Through Turning Tides, Aubrey aims to connect more people with Maine’s ocean environment.

Aubrey holds a master’s degree in marine science and has studied Maine’s marine environment for almost a decade. She has published papers on mussels and lobsters, worked on mussel farms and lobster boats, and has logged hundreds of hours in the intertidal zone.

Most recently, she served as a Maine Sea Grant Knauss Fellow (a prestigious one-year marine policy fellowship). In the past year, her work has taken her from swimming with Galapagos sharks in Hawaii to spotting whales on NOAA research vessels, but she always finds her way back home to the Gulf of Maine.

Aubrey was inspired to create Turning Tides ME to provide unique opportunities for tourists and locals alike to learn more about Maine’s coast. At present, she contracts out colleagues in the Maine marine science field for larger group events but she hopes to one day expand her operation up and down the east coast, creating more space for accessible ocean education and bolstering flexible income opportunities for other marine scientists.
